Nicole Gee, 23, captioned the Aug. 20\u00a0snap on Instagram, showing her peering down at the baby in her arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photo was later picked up by the Pentagon and\u00a0shared on its Twitter account.<br>\u201cU.S. military service members comfort infants at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan,\u201d the\u00a0Department of Defense wrote\u00a0to accompany a series of candid photos showing camo-clad warriors on babysitting duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gee, a maintenance technician with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, was from Roseville, Calif.,\u00a0Stars &amp; Stripes reported.\u00a0She had been assigned to assist women and girls at Kabul\u2019s Hamid Karzai International Airport as they\u00a0fled Taliban repression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She last posted on Instagram on Aug. 22 \u2014 a\u00a0photo showing her armed\u00a0and watching over a long line of evacuees as they boarded an airplane to flee Kabul at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEscorting evacuees onto the bird,\u201d Gee wrote with a heart emoji.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On her Instagram bio, the resident of Sacramento, Calif. described herself as a \u201cpositive mental health attitude advocate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gee was a \u201cmodel Marine,\u201d according to Capt. Karen Holliday, who mourned her pal\u2019s loss on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe was doing God\u2019s work\u2026..a warrior,\u201d Holliday wrote, adding that Gee had recently earned a meritorious promotion to sergeant and boasted perfect fitness scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/nicole-gee-4.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1011\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/nicole-gee-4.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/nicole-gee-4-225x300.webp 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Gee proudly documented her promotion with a series of photos on social media, writing \u201cNever would have imagined having my Sergeant promotion meritoriously in Kuwait.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was seen in another recent photo chatting kindly with a pair of young Afghan girls as she guided them across the tarmac toward new lives of freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur family will never be the same now that you\u2019re no longer with us,\u201d Gee\u2019s cousin, Steffani Moody, posted on Facebook. \u201cYou were a hero to the people you helped in Kabul, and we could not be more proud of your memory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Misty Fuoco, Gee\u2019s sister, called her \u201csuch a bright light to everyone she touched\u201d on a GoFundMe site she organized so that family and friends can attend funeral services.<br>Fuoco added a touching tribute to Gee\u2019s husband Jarod Gee, a fellow Marine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey had a bond like nothing I\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d Fuoco wrote. \u201cI\u2019m so devastated that he has lost the love of his life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sgt. Mallory Harrison, Gees\u2019 roommate in a house they shared at North Carolina\u2019s Camp Lejeune, posted a\u00a0heartbreaking Facebook tribute\u00a0to her friend late Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI find peace knowing that she left this world doing what she loved,\u201d Harrison wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe was a Marine\u2019s Marine. She cared about people. She loved fiercely.
