The Marine captured in a photo cooing over a rescued Afghan infant last week was identified Saturday as one of the 13 US service members slaughtered in\u00a0Thursday\u2019s terror attack\u00a0in Kabul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love my job,\u201d Sgt. Nicole Gee, 23, captioned the Aug. 20\u00a0snap on Instagram, showing her peering down at the baby in her arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photo was later picked up by the Pentagon and\u00a0shared on its Twitter account.
\u201cU.S. military service members comfort infants at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan,\u201d the\u00a0Department of Defense wrote\u00a0to accompany a series of candid photos showing camo-clad warriors on babysitting duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gee, a maintenance technician with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, was from Roseville, Calif.,\u00a0Stars & Stripes reported.\u00a0She had been assigned to assist women and girls at Kabul\u2019s Hamid Karzai International Airport as they\u00a0fled Taliban repression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She last posted on Instagram on Aug. 22 \u2014 a\u00a0photo showing her armed\u00a0and watching over a long line of evacuees as they boarded an airplane to flee Kabul at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEscorting evacuees onto the bird,\u201d Gee wrote with a heart emoji.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On her Instagram bio, the resident of Sacramento, Calif. described herself as a \u201cpositive mental health attitude advocate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gee was a \u201cmodel Marine,\u201d according to Capt. Karen Holliday, who mourned her pal\u2019s loss on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was doing God\u2019s work\u2026..a warrior,\u201d Holliday wrote, adding that Gee had recently earned a meritorious promotion to sergeant and boasted perfect fitness scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gee proudly documented her promotion with a series of photos on social media, writing \u201cNever would have imagined having my Sergeant promotion meritoriously in Kuwait.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was seen in another recent photo chatting kindly with a pair of young Afghan girls as she guided them across the tarmac toward new lives of freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur family will never be the same now that you\u2019re no longer with us,\u201d Gee\u2019s cousin, Steffani Moody, posted on Facebook. \u201cYou were a hero to the people you helped in Kabul, and we could not be more proud of your memory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Misty Fuoco, Gee\u2019s sister, called her \u201csuch a bright light to everyone she touched\u201d on a GoFundMe site she organized so that family and friends can attend funeral services.
Fuoco added a touching tribute to Gee\u2019s husband Jarod Gee, a fellow Marine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey had a bond like nothing I\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d Fuoco wrote. \u201cI\u2019m so devastated that he has lost the love of his life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sgt. Mallory Harrison, Gees\u2019 roommate in a house they shared at North Carolina\u2019s Camp Lejeune, posted a\u00a0heartbreaking Facebook tribute\u00a0to her friend late Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI find peace knowing that she left this world doing what she loved,\u201d Harrison wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was a Marine\u2019s Marine. She cared about people. She loved fiercely. She was a light in this dark world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harrison shared a collection of snapshots showing the two blonde sergeants sharing beach days, shopping trips and evenings out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But she was fixated on the reminder of Gee\u2019s car, which Harrison had been maintaining in her buddy\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
