Five Israeli soldiers were killed and 14 others were wounded Monday night during an operation in Beit Hanoun, in the northern Gaza Strip, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The soldiers killed in the incident, who all served in the Netzah Yehuda (97th) Battalion of the Kfir Brigade, are Sergeant First Class (res.) Benyamin Asulin, 28, Staff Sergeant Moshe Shmuel Noll, 21, Staff Sergeant Noam Aharon Musgadian, 20, Staff Sergeant Meir Shimon Amar, 20, and Sergeant Moshe Nissim Frech, 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, two soldiers from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion were severely wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred Monday night at around 10:00 P.M. According to a preliminary investigation by the IDF, the troops were crossing a route on foot near which tanks and engineering vehicles were operating when they were hit by an explosive device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wounded were evacuated for medical treatment at hospitals in Israel. During the attempts to evacuate them, the rescue force was ambushed with gunfire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the ground operation in Gaza began in late 2023, the IDF has operated on the ground on dozens of occasions in the area of Beit Hanoun, which lies near the border with Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

he Netzah Yehuda force arrived in the area following an offensive operation launched by the IDF in Beit Hanoun. Two combat brigades began to operate on Saturday night against a fortified compound where Hamas terrorists were located on the outskirts of Beit Hanoun. Prior to the operation, the Israeli military struck the area both by air and from the ground in the past week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benyamin Asulin, 28, from Haifa, was a fighter in the Northern Brigade of the Gaza Division. Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav paid tribute to him, saying, “In my opinion, Benjamin, the son of Shalom and Aida, embodies all the good and noble things in us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A young man, with ambitions and dreams, who puts his life on hold and enlists to fight for the country,” he said. “I pray that Benyamin and his friends will be the last casualties in this war.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ironi Aleph High School, where he studied, eulogized him as well. “Benjamin was a beloved, humble and kind-hearted boy,” it said. “A quiet but present student, who was highly regarded by his teachers and friends.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Many of us remember him, his shining face and the special character he radiated around him,” the school added. Asulin’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at 5:30 P.M. at the city’s military cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moshe Shmuel Noll, 21, from Beit Shemesh, was a fighter in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion. Beit Shemesh Mayor Shmuel Greenberg wrote, “Moshe Shmuel was a role model of dedication and heroism. A true fighter who fell fiercely while on his mission for the people of Israel.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noam Aharon Masagdian, 20, from Jerusalem, was a soldier in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion. His brother Roee eulogized him, saying, “Noam knew what he wanted to do, and he was exceptionally talented.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“But what drove him were not his dreams, desires, and brains \u2013 but his qualities and the way he led his life,” he added. “He didn’t talk about himself, he looked at what was needed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When his company commander got married, Noam replaced him and ran the platoon,” Roee added. “Last week he was very frustrated, wondering how his friends, most of whom serve in Gaza, and there is clearly a burnout, would accept that he had to tell them \u2013 ‘We’re going in.'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That was the only thing he was worried about, not about himself,” he said. Musgadian’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meir Shimon Amar, 20, from Jerusalem, was a soldier in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion. His funeral procession left the family home in Givat Ze’ev at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moshe Nissim Frech, 20, from Jerusalem, was a soldier in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion. His funeral will take place at 12:00 P.M. at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A., a soldier in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, told Kan Bet public radio that though he wasn’t in the incident itself, the IDF is doing everything to “ensure that things like this don’t happen.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I knew the fallen,” he added. “Some were with me in the company, some were a year behind me. High-quality, good company, they are all Haredi. They don’t always have the support from home, and the drive that everyone who enlists has. “<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s important to appreciate this and give the families the strength and support to show that we care about them,” he said. “People like that, who are the salt of the earth, those who give of themselves. We support them and appreciate them countlessly.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IDF has released the names of 888 soldiers who have been\u00a0killed since October 7, 2023. Since the end of the cease-fire on March 18, 37 soldiers have been killed in the Gaza Strip, along with a member of the\u00a0Border Police’s undercover unit\u00a0and\u00a0an engineering equipment operator, a contractor for the Defense Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The army also released the names of three additional soldiers killed during this period: a soldier killed at home\u00a0in a missile strike during the war\u00a0with Iran; a soldier killed in an\u00a0operational car accident near the Gaza border; and a soldier killed in an\u00a0operational car accident in the Golan Heights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
