A video currently circulating online shows a police officer spraying pepper spray into the face of a Mercedes driver through the open driver\u2019s side door. Suddenly, the man behind the wheel puts the car in reverse, drives off, and the officer falls. With the trunk open, the man speeds away.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response to a BILD inquiry, the Konstanz police headquarters confirmed the incident and the corresponding video. Here\u2019s what happened: According to police, the 44-year-old driver caused<br>an<br>accident on Sunday evening around 6:45 p.m. on Georg-Fischer-Stra\u00dfe in Singen\u00a0(Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg)\u00a0. While driving towards Rielasinger Stra\u00dfe, he allegedly rear-ended a Seat at the intersection with Worblinger Stra\u00dfe \u2013 \u201cpresumably intentionally\u201d and \u201clikely in a state of mental distress,\u201d as the police stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Driver suddenly accelerates car<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement continues: \u201cDuring the subsequent accident investigation, the 44-year-old became aggressive and uncooperative, vehemently resisting the officers\u2019 instructions.\u201d The officers then used pepper spray. Undeterred, the man put the car in reverse and accelerated. \u201cIn doing so, he knocked over an officer standing next to the car with the open driver\u2019s side door and fled the scene,\u201d the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bild.de\/regional\/aktuelles\/polizei\/polizeieinsatz-alle-infos-76681760.bild.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police<\/a>&nbsp;said .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police called off the pursuit of the Mercedes driver \u201cto prevent further danger.\u201d Border guards eventually arrested him in Switzerland. He was taken to a psychiatric hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Users discuss video<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The video has sparked mixed reactions on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bild.de\/themen\/specials\/social-media-aktuelle-news-und-infos-cLjEg0yrHXaCMpeGXqCS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>&nbsp;: Some consider the amount of pepper spray used excessive and inappropriate. Others praise the police. And still others mock the incident (\u201cThe pepper spray was expired\u201d).<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bild.de\/themen\/specials\/social-media-aktuelle-news-und-infos-cLjEg0yrHXaCMpeGXqCS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police clarify: \u201cWhen viewing such videos of operations on social media, it is crucial to know the context. Individual excerpts only show partial aspects of the event and can quickly convey a distorted overall picture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Police officer \u201cnot seriously injured\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police officer is reportedly doing well and was \u201cnot seriously injured,\u201d a spokeswoman told BILD.
