{"id":2713,"date":"2026-08-20T18:04:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T18:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/?p=2713"},"modified":"2026-08-20T18:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T18:04:08","slug":"fighter-who-knocked-out-democrat-congress-hopeful-reveals-what-really-sparked-brawl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/?p=2713","title":{"rendered":"Fighter who knocked out Democrat congress hopeful reveals what really sparked brawl"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"848\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 848 \/ 848;\" width=\"848\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_6548.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fighter who knocked out a Hawaii Democrat has revealed the brawl was caused by the wannabe politician pulling out a knife and claiming he had a gun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kama Homan claimed Kirill Basin, 40, threatened to shoot the wife of a 61-year-old man after he complained Mr Basin was playing music too loud on the Maui beach on Saturday,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Viral footage showed Mr Homan battering Mr Basin before leaning over his limp body and branding him a \u201cHaole\u201d, a pejorative term Polynesian islanders call white people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Homan told Hawaii News Now, \u201cI\u2019m like, maybe I should intervene, and then as I got closer and closer, he was just getting more irate and violent and then saying stuff. \u2018I\u2019m going to hurt you\u2019 or \u2018I can injure you\u2019 or \u2018You like to scrap\u2019 to the aunties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The footage showed Mr Homan, who said he has mixed martial arts training, throwing a punch at Mr Basin\u2019s face after he allegedly instigated a fight and swung a beach chair at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The punch knocked Mr Basin out cold, and Mr Homan stood over the man trying to wake him up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Homan said he found the knife after Mr Basin allegedly threw it into the ocean, before he turned it over to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe ended up pulling the knife out on me \u2026 and that was obviously a game changer when I knew he was off,\u201d Mr Homan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Basin made a court appearance on Tuesday in handcuffs on two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening stemming from the fight as he remained in jail on $US1 million ($1.4 million) bail<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-19.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2715\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-19.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-19-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.landingliker.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-19-767x576.png 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both of the charges came from his altercation with Mr Homan. His attorney said he believed the bail amount to be \u201coutrageous\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are just allegations. My client has a presumption of innocence,\u201d Mr Basin\u2019s attorney Brandon Segal said. Mr Segal disputed any account that Mr Basin had a weapon during the altercation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s no evidence in any of these videos that have been circulated tremendously that he ever had a knife in his possession. He never had a firearm in his possession,\u201d the attorney insisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Basin was previously arrested in May on another charge of terrorist threatening in the first degree after he allegedly pulled a gun on officials after storming a government building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court recommended Mr Basin undergo a mental health assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Homan is a local construction business owner and was nominated for Young Small Businessperson of the Year by the Maui Chamber of Commerce in 2024, according to his website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He left no doubts about whether he was afraid of the unruly Mr Basin, who is challenging Democratic Representative Jill Tokuda for her Hawaii congressional seat in the state\u2019s second congressional district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo. I didn\u2019t even know who the guy was,\u201d he said.
