In response, a deputy\u00a0fired his service weapon, striking Anderson in the chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Humboldt County Sheriff&#8217;s Office said the shooting was witnessed by bystanders and captured on body cameras worn by the deputies. They said preliminary information indicates that Anderson was not a resident of Humboldt County, and his reason for being in Loleta is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators are working to establish a timeline of Anderson&#8217;s whereabouts and actions in the days leading up to the incident. The HCSO said License Plate Recognition cameras show a vehicle associated with Anderson arriving in Humboldt County from Simi Valley on June 3. They said Anderson appears to have used an alias to receive medical treatment for a pre-existing injury at a local facility while in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on routine paid leave pending the investigation&#8217;s outcome. A forensic autopsy is expected to be completed in the coming days, which may provide further information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The multi-agency Humboldt County Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Humboldt County Sheriff&#8217;s Office and the Humboldt County District Attorney&#8217;s Office, is investigating the case.
