The driver of a stolen sports car crashed into a utility pole in Brickell, knocking out power to more than a dozen customers, according to authorities and Florida Power & Light.
The crash happened just after midnight Tuesday. Video of the scene on Southwest 2nd Avenue between 12th and 13th streets shows a dark-colored Ferrari that appeared to have spun out and crashed into a light pole, snapping it in half.
Miami Police said they responded to the scene when a woman reported that her car was stolen and pinging to the location of Southwest 2nd Avenue and 17th Street.
When officers arrived, they saw a subject “enter the vehicle and drive off.”
Officers said they tried to stop the driver, “at which point the subject attempted to flee, lost control of the vehicle and ultimately collided into another police cruiser as well as a light pole in the area.”
Witnesses told NBC6 they heard a loud boom before seeing the mangled Ferrari with its airbags deployed.
According to Miami Beach police, the incident began on Monday at around 5:30 p.m., when officers were called to a residence for the reported theft of two luxury vehicles: a 2024 Ferrari Purosangue and a 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
Police determined that the vehicles had been released to a third-party transportation company for delivery to a business outside of Miami Beach. But several hours later, the business owner contacted the vehicle owner to report that the cars never arrived, authorities said.
“The vehicle owner believes the vehicles were stolen while in transit,” police said.
The car owner told NBC6 that two of her cars were taken from her home Monday afternoon. She said they were being taken to get wrapped, but was told the third-party transportation company that was hired by the wrapping company to deliver the cars had taken them. They said it was the wrapping company that first reported the stolen cars to police.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan was recovered in Miami-Dade County. The Ferrari Purosangue was the vehicle involved in the crash in Miami.
Around 15 customers are currently without power, according to the FPL outage map. Utility crews have removed the splintered utility pole and are working to make repairs and restore power to residents.
The driver was taken to the hospital for a minor laceration and will be charged, police said. No other injuries were reported.
